What are you looking for?
Lessons from little blue ducks
Last week, my office was rounding out an “Olympics” style competition. My team was in third (last) place. I hadn’t done too much for the cause and had all but given up — until it was announced that there would be a Hail Mary opportunity to win. On Friday, 100 little blue ducks would be hidden around the office for us to find, each worth 5 points. Some quick math made it clear: if we found 65 of these ducks, our little (losing) team could come from behind and win.
So at 8 am on Friday, I gathered with a tiger team of coworkers, and we hit ground running. By the competition’s end, we had found 72 little ducks. Victory was ours!!
I share this because after a morning spent scouring plants and windowsills and desks for little blue ducks, I went out to grab a coffee and found myself seeing flashes of blue all over the street, on mailboxes, and in trees. My mind was so fixated on these silly ducks that I couldn’t stop looking for them, everywhere.
What is the point of this? Well, this whole silly competition reminded me that what we look for, we find. Are you looking for little blue ducks? Then you’ll certainly be more likely to find them. Are you looking for evidence that God loves you and is taking care of you? When I am, I see Him much more clearly. On the inverse, if I want evidence that nothing works out or I’m not doing enough, the enemy is more than pleased to point my eyes in the direction of my failings and disappointments. What am I looking for? What do I find?
So this week, let’s look for the little blue ducks of God’s providence! He’s always moving; let’s be on the lookout :)
In Christ,
Jane

Back in the ice cream game!
A few years ago, I got quite into making ice cream — thanks to a Salt and Straw cookbook and ice cream maker from my parents. But that ice cream maker has been dormant for almost three years… until last week! For my friend’s baby shower, I was determined to make my very favorite Lemon Buttermilk Custard with Blueberry Jam ice cream, and it was DIVINE. I also made Sea Salt and Caramel Ribbons, which is also life-changing. Here’s to a summer of ice cream!

My friends and I are putting together Summer Bingo cards and I wanted to share mine with you! So fun! (Also, yes, “Vegetables” is summer bingo item because we all need to remember to eat our veggies).
